September 21-25

Math-
This week we will be ordering numbers on a number line. In addition to previous vocabulary, we will be using before, after, and between. This week concludes our inital unit on number sense. We will continue to revisit these concepts throughout the year.

Science-
We will be studying the four seasons (especially fall) this week. The earth's tilt causes the seasons. The students will make diagrams, physical models, and other projects to learn the basic concept behind the seasons. The students will also discover and assess the visible changes in our environment as the season changes. The first day of fall is September 22nd! Take a walk with your student and try to find signs of the season!

Planners-
Continue to initial your child's planner every day-we appreciate it!

Volunteers-
Thanks for all your GREAT help this week! You help make our classroom great :)

September 14-18

This week in math we will be working on less, more, same, less than, greater than, and equal to. We will be using number lines and counters to help us learn the appropriate vocabulary and the number sense behind these concepts. At home, you can use items like rulers to represent number lines, and almost any situation to reinforce the vocabulary..."you have more chores to do" or "your tv time is less than your outside time."

In science, we continue our exploration of colors this week. We will be conducting a few experiments to discover how colors change and how rainbows are formed. This week, we will manipulate water, sun, and light to help us on our quest for rainbow knowledge. Ask your children about the class activities and maybe you can repeat them at home together!

We are starting our planners this week! Please be sure to inital the box in your child's planner. This will be a great communication tool.

Have a great week!

Parent Orientation

Thank you to all of the parents who attended our parent night! It was great to meet you and give you a glimpse of our classroom. For those of you who were unable to attend, I hope you take a moment to review the packet that was sent home and contact us with any questions you might have :)

What a great first week!

We have such a WONDERFUL bunch of first graders this year in Room 1C! The first week was spent learning school routines, making friends, and adjusting to the full day at school. This week, we will be learning our color words and exploring the science behind colors. In math, we are working on instantly identifying sets of numbers (1-10) and ordering numbers (1-10). Please help your children practice these skills at home, and ask them about what they are doing in class! Mrs. Poste and I look forward to seeing you at Parent Orientation on Thursday at 6:00.
